A Pig's Tale: Pig Named Six Seven Spared by Miami Dade County Leader.
It might not have been at the identical stature as sparing Thanksgiving turkeys, but the Miami-Dade County mayor experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She deserves this act of mercy. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of pardons issued from the start of the beginning of a current administration.
“Unless you count eating six or seven apples per day,” the mayor added. “May this pig enjoy a prosperous future away from worry.”
The event, which both honors and questions the region’s Hispanic tradition of eating roast pork during the holidays, was established to mirror the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The animal, donated by a local firefighter, was given its name from the current slang trend of young people exclaiming “six seven” – originating from a rap song lyric – often for no discernable reason. The phrase became so pervasive that a prominent word reference recently declared “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A New Life
This particular pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a countryside refuge “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to open the end-of-year celebrations,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.
“It captures the essence of Miami: joyful, varied, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Every time, we are proud to celebrate culture and compassion in a way only Miami can.”
Guests enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach fritters and cafecito as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
