Battlefield 6's Relaxed Playlist Ignites Intense Debates Regarding Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times
Recently, the game developers launched a fresh game mode called Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this option mirrors the standard Breakthrough format but features a few key changes:
- Every squad has just eight real players, with the rest filled by AI-controlled opponents.
- Actions performed by real players award full XP, while bot actions offer lower rewards.
- Just a pair of locations are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
- Elements like Player tags, achievements, and stat tracking have been turned off.
So essentially, this mode lives up to its name: it offers a laid-back take of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think there's nothing wrong, since it gives more options for players looking for alternative ways to have fun with the title. However, if video games has shown one thing, it's that you can't please everyone. In other words, many Battlefield 6 fans are upset.
Player Responses: Anger to Support
"People want human opponents. Avoid making the mistakes of your competitors," reads a response to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking concept," comments another. At the same time, in community forums, a player remarks, "It's unclear where we are going with this title," while another lists all the issues they believe to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."
On the other hand, for every complaint, some gamers explaining how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to warm up, human participants keep it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," reads one Reddit comment. "The community fails to see that there are players who actually go outside and don't play this game all the time. Allow them to find a middle ground," adds a different comment. A response on Twitter explains that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is great for me," while another praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Constructive Concerns and Player Input
All that said, players have valid points to complain about the new mode. Some users have highlighted that it could increase wait times even longer for different playlists due to the sheer number of options currently available. On a similar note, some areas often face AI-filled matches in the current modes. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a required amount of human gamers, despite it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.
Lastly, one of the biggest grievances is that a previous feature was meant to provide full XP, including AI matches, but that was removed when they attempted to remove bot farms from the mode. So this new playlist seems like the community meeting them halfway, as per a Reddit comment. A different user describes this addition as the devs "making a mistake significantly, I had great enjoyment in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to change it?"
Looking Ahead: Adjustments Be Made?
If Battlefield Studios has proven anything so far with the latest installment, it's that they're listening and responding to player input. Tasks that were overly hard got fixed very quickly, just like the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, should analytics indicates this new playlist isn't performing to their expectations, they won't be shy to change it again.
