Cars in Germany's City Discovered Covered with Nazi Symbols in Blood, Law Enforcement Report

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Police
Police reported they were notified by a individual who found a automobile in Hanau covered with reddish fluid

Roughly 50 cars have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to authorities.

Automobiles, walls and postboxes were defaced, in some cases with swastikas, they reported in a statement.

Police say they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.

The substance had been placed in the shape of a swastika, they reported.

Law enforcement then found multiple other smeared automobiles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

These symbols are banned in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.

Law enforcement state preliminary tests indicate the substance was likely human blood.

"There is still no indication as to its origin; authorities are not yet aware of any harm in relation with the event," they commented.

City officials stated they were trying "to resolve the mystery" and have requested to the public for information.

A senior political figure said the incident rendered him stunned and had to be resolved rapidly.

"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the far-right violent incident half a decade ago," he wrote on social media, mentioning the murder of nine people by a gunman aiming at individuals of immigrant origin in five years prior.
