However the player has implemented adjustments in the past month, making an effort to approach the net and perform aggressively, backed up by an better service.
Medvedev fought back from a deficit in the opening set against the difficult Frenchman, winning four of the concluding five games to gain the advantage.
The competitors exchanged break points in the middle set before the challenger, bidding for his initial professional championship, seized the initiative to create a third set.
He rescued 4 early-game break points in a tight third set before the Russian won the break to that score to secure the win.
Fittingly, the winner earned the win with a rally at the net, with Moutet unable to manage a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
