Outrage as Beloved South African DJ Killed in the Heart of Johannesburg.
A prominent South African media personality and entertainer has been murdered in the country's largest city Johannesburg, triggering widespread grief across a country battling persistent crime.
Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, was gunned down in the central business district on Tuesday afternoon.
Authorities reported the 40-year-old entertainer was confronted by three suspects, with one began shooting at him before fleeing on foot.
The motive behind the shooting has not been established and no arrests are in custody, police said.
The Fatal Incident
Authorities indicated that Stock was attacked as he was exiting a location close to the Carlton Centre.
He had spent several hours at the site supervising the installation of safety equipment, which had been controversially occupied by unidentified individuals, as per local media.
"The report indicates the deceased was confronted by three unidentified men after parking his vehicle, and they shot at him before escaping on foot," authorities stated.
Surveillance tape reportedly depicted a man with dreadlocks and dressed in what resembled a protective services outfit firing shots on Stock before running away.
The DJ tried to run away after he was shot but succumbed to his injuries on the opposite side of the road.
It was further revealed that Stock had an gun that was not fired and it was not a robbery during the incident.
Crucial forensic evidence, like bullet casings, were found at the scene.
Appeal for Witnesses
Officials are asking members of the public who may have witnessed the attack to contact them.
"Evidence suggests they traveled on foot after the shooting, and officers have been tracking them to determine their destination," added an official.
Outpouring of Grief
His sister, Nicole Stock, expressed the family was struggling to come to terms with the loss.
"I am devastated. I cannot express the pain," she said.
"Everyone understood he was a voice for many people. He addressed issues courageously about issues not many people were willing to discuss. This is a profound tragedy."
She urged the citizens to not sharing explicit content from the scene, explaining this was an incredibly difficult time, above all for Stock's children.

Stock was the presenter of Ngicel' iVisa, a television program that premiered on a South African digital satellite entertainment channel.
In addition to his media career, Stock was engaged in various business ventures, including protective services, supplying elite guarding services and securing prestigious gatherings across South Africa.
He was also reportedly involved in real estate operations and participated in tenant removals.

His murder has shocked the country and led to an flood of condolences from his fans, the authorities and political parties.
A government minister remarked he was outraged and heartbroken by Stock's untimely death.
"He spoke his truth fearlessly and impartially. He even challenged me and my actions as a public official. He was a shining model of who we ought to be," was his tribute.
A political leader said the "audacious attack of DJ Warras in broad daylight is a shock for all South Africans".
A media executive said that "DJ Warras was not merely a TV personality. He was a talented storyteller, a true devotee of sound and a warm soul who brought joy and energy to every performance. His artistic passion left an lasting impression."
In a communication, the network he worked for declared Stock was known for his presence, warmth and quick humor, adding that his memory "will endure".
