Slot Maintains He Feels Secure and Retains The Club's Support After PSV Eindhoven Defeat
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it was expected for concerns to be raised about his future after another convincing defeat against the Dutch champions.
The Reds suffered their 9th loss in twelve matches, marking the team's worst run after being demoted in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie title holders on a difficult evening at their home ground.
“I'm confident, things are alright, I've received significant support from above,” the coach stated.
“It would be nice to change things and get a victory naturally but if you are coaching a team and underperforming then it is normal that doubts arise.”
He added, “I'm comfortable with my position. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a difficult position but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”
Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to expand on his conversations with the club's leadership, Slot explained:
“There's regular dialogue. They assist for the squad and to me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me all the time each day to say they trust me.”
He mentioned, “During our regular discussions I feel the confidence. However I haven’t spoken to them since this match yet so it remains to be seen.”
Recurring Failings and Squad Response
Slot lamented familiar weaknesses from his squad in their Champions League loss, namely wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the answers. Truthfully, I do not. I’m saying that to all,” the midfielder stated.
“It's simply not good enough. I don't need to wait to reflect. I'm beyond getting mad inside. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the words.”
He continued, “It's difficult because I play for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I've watched this club all my life.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Liverpool team experiencing a period of this nature with outcomes like these.”
Jones concluded, “However we continue to wear that badge on our shirts. And until that badge is gone, we will always fight.”
“We will attempt to get this team return to its rightful place, show everyone once more the values of this club and why people call it the best team in the world.”
“At this moment, things are bad and it must improve.”
