The Red Devils Poised to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Acquisition for United
The forward, with six months left on her contract, has been a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing will be seen as a major coup for the Women’s Super League team.
Departure from Bayern has been anticipated after she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top forwards. According to reports, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.
Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen the Attack
The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a major uplift to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been highly consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- For seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Carrington
The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when United appear to be gathering momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has seen additional business:
- The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
