The co-creator of Call of Duty, who helped create the wildly popular franchise Call of Duty, has tragically died in a traffic collision in the state of California aged 55.

Zampella's death was verified by Electronic Arts, the parent company of Respawn Entertainment, the video game company which he helped establish.

The influential video game developer died after his automobile collided and caught fire on a highway in Los Angeles on this past Sunday, US media outlets report.

"This represents a heartbreaking loss, and our hearts are with Vince's family, his family, and all those touched by his legacy," an official with Electronic Arts stated.
